Carolyn Little (Democrat), the long-time Greene County Public Administrator (28 years), is retiring. She is endorsing and supporting (as treasurer of her campaign, etc.) Laura Fabro (Democrat) for this position. There appear to be some controversies concerning Carolyn Wilson, another Democrat running for this office. Laura Fabro seems well-qualified for the position, should you want another Democrat to hold this position.
There are two Democrats and 4 Republican Candidates running for this office.
Democrats are:
Laura Fabro
Carolyn D. Wilson
Republicans are:
Becky Frakes
Anthony “Tony” Bleau
Terry Ozborn
David Yancey
The Greene County Administrator is not a business administration position. Instead the office entails appointing and overseeing guardians and conservators as well as any related matters. It is a specific job with specific duties and training that include following the National Guardianship Association’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. When the court finds that a person can no longer make decisions for themselves and no one else steps in to be an advocate, a public administrator is appointed. And when family members get into a dispute sometimes a public administrator is needed. . When someone passes away and there are no family members, once again, a public administrator is needed. Guardianship/conservator appointments are sometimes made for those with mental disability or incapacity.
Here is a little info. on the job qualifications from the Greene County official web pages:

Here is information about this office (from the viewpoint of Becky Frakes, one of the candidates):

Here is a site that tells about Becky Frakes. She has a lot of experience in being an advocate for those needing assistance and has worked hand-in-hand with this office in the past. She is the best Republican candidate. I also heard her speak at a Pachyderm meeting, and I was impressed by all she had to say. She has a son with Asperger Syndrome and has been an advocate for him as well as for her aged parents. She has also worked in the Public Administrator’s office and in the legal profession. She is a very caring person, and the Public Administrator takes on cases of people who are unable to handle their own affairs, etc. The other candidates all had experience in the legal and other professions, but they did not have the real experience in the office itself or in caring and being an advocate one-on-one experience.

Of interest to some is that Becky Frakes used to work for Springfield attorney Rolland Comstock who was murdered in his home on July 3, 2007.
The other 3 Republican candidates, while I am sure they are good people, they don’t have the experience or qualifications needed. They seem to be running for any office they may be “qualified” for. They have run in the past for other positions and have not been elected. In a letter to the editor of the Springfield News-Leader, it says: “David Yancey ran for treasurer, Tony Bleau ran for circuit clerk and Terry Ozborn ran for assessor. Now all three of them are running for this office.”
Do candidates have actual experience? (Springfield News-Leader, July 21, 2008):

Presumably additional information will be made available in the Springfield News-Leader, the Community Free Press, and other news media, as well as in information provided by the League of Women’s Voters.
It is obvious to me that the best choices are Becky Frakes (R) or Laura Fabro (D). And since I am in favor of LESS government controls and vote Republican, I support Becky Frakes for Greene County Public Administrator.
